Adapting Herbs and Seasonings for Crock Pots

You need to evaluate the flavor when adapting herbs and seasonings for crock pots.

  • Whole herbs have their flavors enhanced over a long time of cooking. So add them at the beginning.

However, ground spices and herbs tend to lose some of their flavor. Taste before serving so you can add more seasonings if your crock pot recipe doesn't have the taste you want.

Crock Pot meals are "musty." (You "must" have some more!)

  • Remember that liquids don't boil down in a slow cooker. You usually end up with more instead of less by the time your recipe is done. So reduce by half the amount of liquid in the recipe. Of course, you would not want to do this if you are making soup.
