Mom's Sloppy Joes

3 pounds ground beef
1 large onion
2 cloves garlic,minced
1-1/2 cups ketchup
1 large green pepper, chopped
1/2 cup water
4 tablespoons each of brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce
3 teaspoons chili powder
Brown beef, onion, and garlic. Drain fat.

Combine ketchup, green pepper, water, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder and put in crock pot.

Add the meat mixture. Cover and cook on Low 6 hours. Serve on hamburger buns.

"Absent Cook" Stew

This recipe is from Kathy Hertzler, Lancaster, PA

2 lbs. stewing beef, cubed
2-3 carrots, sliced
1 onion, chopped
3 large potatoes, cubed
3 ribs celery, sliced
10-3/4 oz can tomato soup
1 soup can water
1 tsp salt
dash of pepper
2 tbsp vinegar

Combine all ingredients in crock pot. Cover and cook on Low 10-12 hours.
